COCINA is recommending this web site as a good source of information and news about Haiti. It is the best we have found to date, but there are precautions about relying completely on what is posted---especially relative to political or "social unrest" and social justice implications for Northeast Haiti where Ouanaminthe is located right on the border with Dominican Republic.
This information/news web site is hosted by "The Haiti Support Group" (HSG). HSG is an association of individuals who support the Haitian people in struggles for justice, human rights and democracy. It is based in the United Kingdom.
HSG sometimes posts "information" and "stories" that relate much more to the high density populated areas like Port au Prince and not the rural areas of northern or northeast Haiti. The "news" about northeast Haiti is sometimes stretched, exaggerated or simply false.
Friends of COCINA are invited to directly contact Institution Univers Administrator Hugues Bastien in Ouanaminthe if you need accurate current information about conditions in Ouanaminthe and northeastern Haiti. Alternatively, contact Pastor Dave Mann at Institution Univers in Ouanaminthe.
