What Can I do the Help Support C.O.C.I.N.A.’s Mission?

FINACIAL SUPPORT:
COCINA needs to send about $404,000 to Institution Univers in the year starting September 1, 2007 to help fund the operation and maintenance of the school that is not paid for by the students’ tuition. Student tuition and fees pay less than one-fourth of the total costs for school operations and maintenance. The tuition expected from parents ranges from $61 to $130 per student for the 2007-08 school year, depending on grade level. For the 12 months starting September 1, 2007, COCINA needs to provide about one-fourth more support money to the school than in the previous 12 months. The major school operating cost increase is for teachers’ salaries which have to be increased significantly to come closer to the higher salaries paid by the local public schools. Institution Univers has lost some of its best teachers to other local higher-paying schools.

Here are some of the things that your contributions would support:

• $30 would provide COCINA's lunch subsidy for one student for a year. Students provide just $8 per year for their daily school lunches.
• $130 designated to the "Select Student Scholarships" would allow an ultra-poor student to attend school this year without paying his/her share of the already subsidized tuition.
• $205 would pay the average direct costs for a student attending I.U. for the school year.
• About $2,000 would provide the annual salary for a grade 1-6 teacher.
• $10,000 would pay for needed new textbooks for the school year, mostly for the new 12th grade.
